Privacy & Policies
Last updated: September 2026
What we collect
- The text of each missive you post, and its timestamp.
- A one way hashed device identifier, used only to enforce posting limits and prevent spam. It cannot be reversed to identify you.
- A one way hashed IP address, used only for spam prevention. We do not store or view raw IP addresses.
What we never collect
- No names, emails, or phone numbers.
- No accounts, passwords, or login credentials.
- No tracking across other websites or apps.
- No advertising identifiers or third party trackers.
Encryption
All traffic between your device and Missive is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS. Data is encrypted at rest in our database provider's infrastructure. Because missives are shown publicly to everyone by design, this is not end to end encryption in the traditional sense, there is no single intended recipient. We are simply honest about what "encrypted" means here: your connection is secure, and there is no identity attached to what you post.
Content moderation
Missives are automatically screened for contact information, links, and a small set of clearly harmful terms before being posted. We reserve the right to remove content that violates these guidelines. Because missives are permanent once posted, please think before you post.
Data retention
Missives are kept indefinitely to preserve the board's history. Hashed device and IP identifiers are used only for short term rate limiting and are not linked to any public profile.
Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights under regulations such as the GDPR (EU/UK) or CCPA (California) to request information about data associated with your device, or to request its removal. Because we do not collect identifying information, we may not be able to locate specific data without additional context from you. Contact us using the details below for any such request. missive.support@gmail.com
Children's privacy
Missive is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your region). We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this page from time to time. Continued use of Missive after changes means you accept the updated policy.
